Volunteers planting trees together on open ground

People often tell us they would love to help but are not sure how. The good news is that there is a role for almost everyone, whether you have an hour, a skill, an organisation or a little money to give. Here are five practical ways to support our work.

1. Give

Gifts of any size turn into seedlings, tools, training sessions and clean-up days. You can give online on our Donate page, by M-Pesa Paybill, or by bank transfer to our Equity Bank account, and every channel is listed there with the full details. You can choose to support a particular project or program, or the general fund where we apply gifts where they are needed most. We are a registered community-based organisation and our registration details are published on the same page.

2. Volunteer your time

Joining us is free, there are no goal requirements, and we provide free training. Our volunteers help with tree planting and nursery days, school greening visits, ICT training, climate education and advocacy. If you are a student, a professional, a retiree or simply a neighbour with a free weekend, you are welcome. Fill in the short form on the Volunteer page and tell us what interests you.

3. Share your skills

We are especially glad to hear from people who can offer something specialised: teachers and trainers, designers, photographers, writers, accountants, lawyers, IT professionals and horticulturists. A few hours of expert help can save a small organisation weeks of effort. If that sounds like you, send us a message describing what you can offer.

4. Partner with us

Organisations, businesses and government agencies can help us do far more than we could alone. That might mean sponsoring a planting day, offering trees to rescue for our schools program, hosting a training session, or supporting a project such as the Nairobi River restoration. We welcome all of these conversations, and we are happy to explain exactly how a contribution would be used.

5. Spread the word

Telling friends, family and colleagues about our work costs nothing and helps enormously. Share our pages, forward our newsletter (you can subscribe in the footer of any page), and tell your school, church, youth group or workplace about the programs we run. The more people know about the work, the more help we can find for it.

If you are a school, church, business or youth group

Groups can do things individuals cannot. A school can host a planting day, a business can sponsor a batch of seedlings, a church or mosque can organise a clean-up, and a youth group can adopt a stretch of riverbank. If your group would like to do something together, tell us what you have in mind and we will help you plan it.

Questions?

We keep answers to the questions we hear most often on our FAQs page, including how donations are used, how to volunteer and how to partner with us. If yours is not there, ask us directly and we will reply personally.

Thank you

Everything we have done so far, including more than 11,000 trees planted and hundreds of people educated, has depended on people choosing to help in whatever way they could. Thank you for considering joining them. See what has already been achieved on our impact page, and meet the young leaders behind the foundation on the team page.
